This past week, Roman Polanski announced that he is all set to direct a big screen adaptation of Broadway smash ‘Venus in Fur’. The French language project is independently financed and will begin production in Paris in November with Emmanuelle Seigner and Louis Garrel starring.

Venus in Fur follows an actress performing a sexually charges audition for a very gifted playwright who has adapted a classic erotic novel for the stage. Polanski said he has been seeking an appropriate film to direct in French with his wife Emmanuelle Seigner for some time and Venus in Fur is the perfect vehicle. The David Ives play has done fantastically well both on and off Broadway and has received a Tony nomination for best play and earned star Nina Arianda the Tony for best Actress.

Polanski is adapting the screenplay for the project with the original writer of the play, David Ives and Robert Benmussa and Alain Sarde are attached to produce. ICM Partners will handle rights in North America and Lionsgate will handle international rights.
