Following a near 4 month dry spell, Paramount are back with a bang thanks to Paranormal Activity 4 which achieved a global best of $56.7 million at the box office.

The micro-budget horror franchise is doing particularly well overseas, despite fears that the domestic audience have had enough. The chilling pic took $30.2 million domestically, $5 million below the lowest predictions made in light of the high bar set by the previous installments  However, internationally the film fared much better and scooped the top spot in countries including Australia, Germany and Mexico.

Paramount’s domestic marketing president Megan Colligan said, “We’re focused a lot on that international growth. The fact of the matter is, if we could make $5 million movies that open to $30 million every week we’d make them!”

Paramount have already agreed on a fifth installment of the supernatural series.
