There have been some concerns over The Academy’s switch to electronic voting this time around, but members should relax in the knowledge that they are being provided with a number of optins and additional time to cast their votes in this year’s awards.

It was confirmed earlier this week by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences that e-voting will be introduced this year. However, there are set t be a number of alternatives including assisted voting stations in Los Angeles, New York and London. Paper ballots will also be made available, but it seems unlikely they will survive past this year.

There has also been a change in the timings with the announcement of nominations being brought forward by five days to January, 10 which gives Academy members more time to see the nominees prior to handing in their ballot. However, the move has been criticized as it places the announcement prior to the Golden Globes ceremony on January, 13 and many feel it will steal the spotlight from the awards show.
