Netflix COO Ted Sarandos told investors this week that the company is unconcerned about competition from Amazon and other rival companies. Speaking at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference, Sarandos said, “We never thought we’d operate without competition. We’re surprised it’s taken this long!”

Amazon have recently agreed terms with EPIX which will see them able to double the size of their streaming library, after Netflix exclusive internet rights to the channel expired. Sarandos indicated that the ‘exclusive’ viewing was not enough of a draw to pull customers away from their Netflix subscriptions, especially because EPIX show the programs on television prior to internet release meaning that it isn’t esactly as exclusive as suggested.

Sarandos went on to say that the more important content for the company is Netflix exclusive content and that the company is now looking at producing their own original series, starting with ‘House of Cards’ starring Kevin Spacey.
